Pakistan takes the G-24 chair
Pakistan has assumed the chairmanship of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four (G-24), a bloc that coordinates developing countries on international monetary and development issues, the finance ministry said on Sunday from Islamabad. The ministry said the move renews Pakistan’s pledge to strengthen the collective voice of developing economies and to advance a fairer, development-oriented international financial system.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb described the chairmanship as a profound responsibility. He called for renewed international cooperation, stronger multilateral institutions and firmer global commitments to tackle climate shocks, gaps in development financing and fragmentation in the world economy.
Three priorities for the chair term
Aurangzeb outlined three priorities for Pakistan’s tenure: development-led growth, stronger representation for developing economies, and reform of the international financial architecture. As chair, he said, Pakistan will work to place development at the centre of global economic policymaking.
He argued that macroeconomic stability must underpin investment, productivity, employment and shared prosperity, so that developing and low-income economies can move beyond short-term crisis management toward more durable growth.
Why developing economies matter, Aurangzeb says
“The future of developing economies is not peripheral to the future of the global economy. It is central to it,” Aurangzeb said, according to the finance ministry. He pointed to the potential of emerging and developing nations as sources of investment, innovation, entrepreneurship and global growth.
The ministry’s statement framed the chairmanship as a platform for Pakistan to press those themes in multilateral forums. Further detail on specific negotiating steps was not set out in the material released with the announcement.
Aasan alfaaz mein
Pakistan ne G-24 ki sadarat sambhal li hai, jo developing mulkon ka aik finance group hai. Wazeer-e-Mal Aurangzeb ne kaha ke Pakistan growth, behtar representation aur global finance system ki islah ko priority dega. Ye seedha petrol ya bill nahi badalta, lekin mulk ki awaz international discussions mein mazboot karne ka mauqa hai. Agar ye priorities aage barhein to development financing aur climate shocks jese masail par behtar coordination ki ummeed ho sakti hai.
