Shareholders of the National Bank of Pakistan have endorsed the employment terms for president and chief executive officer Imran Sarwar, approving an NBP president salary of Rs9.5 million in gross monthly pay alongside extensive executive perks.
The contract runs for a three-year term from 2026 to 2029, taking effect retrospectively from September 9, 2026, the day Sarwar took office. According to corporate filings, the compensation package will remain fixed and will not change during the entire contract duration.
Allowances, vehicles and household cover
In addition to the base compensation, the national bank president salary structure incorporates multiple monthly and one-time allowances. Sarwar will receive a housing allowance of Rs1 million per month and remains eligible for an annual bonus linked directly to the bank's performance.
The board-approved perks also provide two official vehicles, full medical cover for Sarwar and his immediate family, and Rs30 million in life insurance cover. The institution will also provide residential security staff, domestic household support, and a generator installation facility capped at Rs1.5 million, alongside standard gratuity and paid leave benefits.
Contract terms and early exit protection
Sarwar, who previously held senior management roles at United Bank Limited and Standard Chartered, was appointed to lead the state-owned lender for three years. The agreement includes clear safeguards regarding executive continuity.
Under the terms approved by shareholders, if the employer terminates the contract before the three-year term ends, the bank must pay out the remaining salary owed for the unexpired portion of the contract period.
