Pakistan has invited American companies to explore Balochistan mining investment, raised during talks in Islamabad on October 20 between Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and US Chargé d'Affaires Natalie A. Baker. A Chargé d'Affaires is a senior diplomat who leads an embassy when no ambassador is in post. The US delegation said it was interested in greater investment and cooperation in Pakistan's mineral sector.
What was discussed
The meeting covered trade, investment and technical cooperation between the two countries. Both sides reported progress, but said some technical issues remain unresolved. No agreement was announced at the meeting.
Other sectors on the agenda
Jam Kamal Khan also pointed to agriculture and industry, including modern farming, food processing and cold-chain infrastructure, meaning temperature-controlled storage and transport for perishable goods. He named Hub in Balochistan as a possible site for manufacturing, industrial investment and special economic zones, which are designated areas with their own business incentives. The two sides also discussed value-added products from Balochistan, particularly dates and olive oil. Investment in processing and storage facilities was seen as a way to help local producers reach international markets.
What happens next
The unresolved technical issues are the main open question, and the meeting did not produce a signed deal. No next meeting or timeline was announced. Balochistan mining investment remains at the stage of an invitation and expressed interest, not a project with confirmed terms.
Aasan alfaaz mein
Pakistan ne American companiyon ko Balochistan mein kaan kani (mining) ke sarmaye ki dawat di hai. Yeh baat Islamabad mein Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan aur US ke Chargé d'Affaires ki mulaqat mein hui. Abhi koi samjhota elaan nahi hua, aur kuch technical masail baaqi hain. Aam shehri ke liye abhi koi fori tabdeeli nahi, lekin sarmaya aaye to kaam ke naye mauqe ban sakte hain.
