Two-way trade between Pakistan and the United States reached an estimated $11.5 billion during 2025, marking a 14 percent increase over the previous year as both capitals seek to finalize an updated commercial pact.
The volume figures and ongoing negotiations were reviewed during an official session in Islamabad between Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and an American diplomatic mission headed by Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker. Officials evaluated progress on a reciprocal bilateral agreement intended to widen market channels and mobilize direct corporate capital.
Shifting Balances Across Goods and Services
Trade data showed merchandise exchange accounted for $8.5 billion of the combined total. American purchases of Pakistani merchandise rose 5.9 percent to reach $5.4 billion. In contrast, shipments from the US to Pakistan grew by 48.4 percent, totaling $3.1 billion.
This movement narrowed the American trade deficit in physical commodities with Pakistan by 23.9 percent, dropping by $719 million to settle at $2.3 billion for the year. Meanwhile, services transactions contributed roughly $2.9 billion. Within services, US sales climbed 6.6 percent to $1.8 billion, whereas Pakistan's services deliveries slipped 1.7 percent to $1.1 billion, leaving Washington with a $731 million services surplus.
Agricultural Approvals and Supply Linkages
During the meeting, Commerce Secretary Jawad Paul requested expedited visits by US agricultural inspectors so local growers can ship mangoes smoothly. Pakistani negotiators also pressed for regulatory progress on date exports, noting that swift approvals would directly aid farming communities in Balochistan.
American delegates agreed to liaise with regulatory bodies in Washington. The dialogue also covered potential imports of American raw cotton and soybeans, reviewing commercial financing structures to help local processors secure steady supplies.
Mineral Deposits and Industrial Hubs
Jam Kamal pointed to Balochistan’s olive farming and date processing as priority areas requiring better cold chains, sorting technology, and export packaging. The minister invited American enterprises to explore joint projects in modern agricultural equipment and livestock.
Talks also encompassed prospective foreign entry into Pakistan's mineral extraction landscape. Officials highlighted opportunities for American technological input and responsible extraction partnerships, alongside industrial investments near Hub, located adjacent to Karachi's port network.
