What the Punjab CM said

In a Maryam Nawaz statement on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, Punjab’s chief minister backed matching force for force when people face street assaults in the province. She told an audience at a Mandi Bahauddin university that she had already counselled victims to meet such violence with the same kind of reply.

The remarks came while she handed out Honhaar scholarships and laptops. She stressed that anyone who commits these crimes would face consequences even if they were linked to her own political party.

Fear, consistency and recent cases

Rejecting intimidation as a style of rule, she said governing by fear is not real governance and urged officials to hold one standard and stick to it. That Maryam Nawaz statement also returned to a Multan tragedy in which a driver ran over a teenage orphan—an episode she said still weighs on her.

She pointed to other recent violence as well: an attack on a woman riding a scooty on a crowded Lahore road, and a beating of a petrol-pump worker. In the Lahore case, video showed a man cutting in front of her two-wheeler and then assaulting her. Officers used footage and data from many Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA)—the province’s camera network—cameras to detain a suspect. A Lahore court later directed that he be freed if he was not sought in another matter.

At a Jubilee Town filling station, reports say a customer who had come for fuel was told by a salesman not to smoke on site. The man allegedly left his SUV, attacked the worker, and left the scene.

Who the government says it backs

Maryam Nawaz again framed the provincial administration as standing with those who are crushed by such acts. She added that she was unconcerned about whichever case might later be filed against her.

Taken together, her Mandi Bahauddin remarks cast “tit for tat” as permission for victims to answer brutality in kind, while also promising that political loyalty will not shield the accused.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Punjab ki CM Maryam Nawaz ne kaha ke assault hone par log jawab mein bhi waisi hi saza de sakte hain. Unhon ne ye baat Mandi Bahauddin mein scholarship aur laptop ceremony par kahi. Multan, Lahore aur petrol pump ke waqiat ka zikr kiya. Unka kehna hai ke sarkar mazloom ke saath hai aur party wale bhi choray nahi jayenge.
