The Punjab government has transferred Rs14.5 billion to prayer leaders across the province through the Chief Minister Punjab’s Imam Masjid Sahibaan Honorarium Programme. Distributed directly into bank accounts, the funds have reached thousands of imams since January 2026 under a system designed to improve financial transparency.

The figures were confirmed during the fifth steering committee review of the initiative at the Punjab Home Department. The session was chaired by Provincial Minister and Cabinet Committee on Law and Order Chairperson Khawaja Salman Rafique. He noted that the provincial administration has committed more than Rs20 billion annually to the initiative to support mosque administrations and acknowledge their civic contribution.

Registration and Geotagging Milestone

Punjab Home Department officials reported that more than 76,000 mosques have been registered across Punjab. Field administrations are currently concluding the digital geotagging of these religious sites to verify locations and streamline disbursement records.

Rafique stated that cataloguing every mosque in the province presented significant administrative challenges. He remarked that imams play a fundamental part in nation-building, social harmony, and promoting tolerance within their communities.

Digital Upgrades and Account Rules

Secretary Home Punjab Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi informed the steering committee that operational supervision of the CM Punjab honorarium card system remains directly under the provincial home administration. To resolve recurring complaints quickly, the department is deploying an automated chatbot to assist prayer leaders with queries regarding allowances and application statuses.

The committee instructed the Bank of Punjab and the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) to resolve technical snags identified in the online application software without delay. Officials also cautioned beneficiaries that account holders must complete at least one financial transaction every three months. Failing to do so risks dormant account status, which would halt automatic monthly honorarium transfers.
