A civil judge in Rawalpindi was critically injured on Tuesday after an advocate allegedly attacked him inside the judicial complex, police sources said. The judge, identified as M.M., suffered cuts to his head and was taken to Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH). Police registered a First Information Report (FIR), the formal complaint that starts a criminal case, against the suspect.

What the FIR says

The FIR was registered under Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act at the Civil Lines police station, and police sealed it. The Anti-Terrorism Act is a special law that covers terrorism-related offences. According to sources, the incident began with an exchange of words, after which the advocate, identified as A.N., reportedly picked up a glass and threw it at the judge. The glass caused cuts on his head, followed by bleeding.

Medical care and security at the hospital

Doctors at BBH used five to six stitches to close the wounds on the judge's head. He then underwent a medico-legal examination, a medical check recorded for legal purposes, and the FIR was registered after its report was obtained. Police were deployed at the hospital to protect the Rawalpindi civil judge, police sources said.

Separate arrest in a May 9 case

In a separate development, police took Raja Haroon Rasheed, president of the Municipal Labour Union, into custody in connection with a May 9 violence case, a police source said. He was picked up from the office of TMA Rawalpindi, the Tehsil Municipal Administration, and moved to the City Police Station for further investigation. Further action in the attack case will depend on the investigation under the FIR, and no further steps have been announced so far.
