Hub Power Company (Hubco) has announced that vehicle production following the BYD Pakistan launch will depend entirely on imported raw materials and parts in its initial phase, before shifting gradually towards domestic manufacturing.

Speaking at a corporate briefing, company management explained that while the early rollout requires overseas supply chains, the ultimate objective is to achieve up to 80 per cent vehicle localisation. This long-term strategy aims to curb foreign exchange reliance, enhance pricing competitiveness, and establish a firm foothold in the country's developing electric mobility sector.

Rollout schedule and sales goals

Operations at the vehicle assembly facility are projected to begin within four to five weeks, targeting an opening around mid-December. Financial brokerage Topline Securities reported that Hubco is aiming for an initial sales rate of roughly 1,000 to 1,500 BYD vehicles per month as production gathers momentum.

The venture intends to roll out various models in a phased manner. Initial market entries will concentrate on vehicle categories with strong demand that can generate sustained sales volume.

Rising competition in electric vehicles

The market for any new BYD electric vehicle Pakistan welcomes is expected to face swift competition. Lucky Cement informed market analysts that rivalry in the electric mobility segment remains fierce, primarily due to imported completely built-up (CBU) vehicles from China.

To establish its own presence, Lucky Cement is working towards initiating local production of electric models by the first quarter of 2027. The company plans to gradually increase manufacturing output and introduce wider model options in subsequent quarters.
