October volumes rebound

Oil industry growth in Pakistan took a clearer monthly turn in October 2026, when oil marketing companies moved 1.48 million tons of product—roughly a tenth more than the 1.35 million tons handled in September—according to figures assembled by brokerage Arif Habib Limited. Compared with October 2025, however, the market was still about 1% thinner, so the bounce looks more like a short-term recovery than a full year-on-year expansion.

Take furnace oil out of the mix and the rest of the basket was 5.9% smaller than a year earlier, even though that same slice rose 10.3% from September. Analysts at the brokerage link the annual softness mainly to softer petrol and diesel demand, as costlier pump prices have dampened buying.

Petrol soft, diesel rebounds, furnace oil surges

Motor spirit, or petrol, came in at 0.64 million tons in October—2% below both the prior month (0.65 million tons) and October 2025 (0.66 million tons). Over the first four months of FY27, petrol still edged up 2% to 2.69 million tons from 2.63 million a year earlier.

High-speed diesel told a mixed story. Volumes climbed 26% from September’s 0.53 million tons to 0.66 million tons, yet remained 7% short of the 0.71 million tons sold in October 2025. Cumulative diesel for 4MFY27 slipped 4% to 2.23 million tons from 2.34 million in the same stretch of FY26.

Furnace oil was the sharp outlier: 0.09 million tons in October, up 2% month on month and 243% from just 0.03 million tons a year earlier. That lift pushed early-FY27 FO volumes to 0.36 million tons versus 0.07 million previously—a 386% rise—and helped underpin overall oil industry growth even while transport fuels lagged.

Who gained share among OMCs

Pakistan State Oil remained the volume leader at 0.69 million tons, up 9% from September and 8% from a year earlier. Its petrol slipped 6% on the month to 0.28 million tons, while diesel rose 22% to 0.33 million tons; furnace oil was a thin 0.01 million tons. PSO’s 4MFY27 total reached 2.60 million tons, 15% above the prior year.

Attock Petroleum sold 0.12 million tons, 6% higher month on month and roughly flat year on year, with small monthly gains in petrol, diesel and furnace oil. Wafi Energy Pakistan posted 0.13 million tons—up 22% from September and 11% year on year—helped by an 8% monthly rise in petrol and a 51% jump in diesel. Hascol managed 0.04 million tons, 5% above September but 6% below last October, with no meaningful furnace oil and a 10% decline in its early-FY27 cumulative volumes.

Across the opening four months of FY27, industry throughput reached 5.59 million tons, 4% above the 5.39 million tons recorded in the same period a year earlier—another marker of oil industry growth on a fiscal year-to-date basis even as October’s year-on-year print stayed slightly negative.

  • 4MFY27 (to October): Cumulative industry sales hit 5.59 million tons, up 4% from 5.39 million tons in the same period of FY26; furnace oil’s early-year total jumped to 0.36 million tons from 0.07 million.

Aasan alfaaz mein

October mein oil companies ki overall sales September se roughly 10% zyada thin, lekin pichhle saal October se ab bhi 1% kam hain. Petrol thora kam bika, diesel mahine ke hisaab se tezi se barha lekin ab bhi last year se peeche hai. Furnace oil bohot barh gaya, jis ne total figures ko sambhala. Mehngai ki wajah se log petrol-diesel kam istemal kar rahe hain, is liye pump par demand abhi fully recover nahi hui.
