Mir Hussain asks Sindh to swap NCCIA member on Mir Raza JIT

In a video appeal, Mir Hussain thanked Sindh for forming a joint probe but said the cybercrime nominee had already spent two months on the file and pushed a suicide line.

Father seeks a clean slate on the joint probe

In Karachi, Mir Hussain — father of Mir Raza Ali — has asked that the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA, the federal cybercrime wing) seat on the joint investigation team (JIT, a multi-agency probe panel) looking into his son’s killing be filled by a different officer. Speaking on camera, he thanked the Sindh administration for setting up the team, then said media reports had named Arslan Manzoor as the NCCIA pick.

He described that nominee as a capable professional, yet still pressed for another appointment. His objection was not about rank or skill alone: he said the same officer had already been on the file for roughly two months and had leaned toward treating the death as suicide. For a credible reopening, he argued, the JIT should include people who never touched the earlier inquiry.

Why he wants outsiders on the team

Mir Hussain framed the ask as a demand for independence. Officers already invested in one theory, he said, should not sit on the panel meant to re-examine the case. He called for entirely new faces from agencies that had not shaped the first narrative, so the murder inquiry could proceed without carry-over assumptions.

Parallel action after the judicial commission

Separately, Sindh on Saturday ordered the suspension of Dr Osama Sheikh, the medico-legal officer (MLO, the doctor who records findings after a death) who performed the first post-mortem on Mir Raza Ali. That step followed remarks in a judicial commission report on the death. The Sindh Home Department told the concerned offices to start departmental proceedings against the doctor. The commission’s report, as cited in official follow-up, characterised his behaviour as immature and childish.

Acting on the same recommendations, the department also ordered an inquiry into Special Secretary of Health Shehryar Gul Memon. It has written to the chief secretary asking that the commission’s directions on Mir Raza’s death be carried out in full.

Timeline: what has happened so far

  • Recent weeks: An NCCIA officer Mir Hussain links to the early file has, he says, worked the matter for about two months and advanced a suicide explanation.
  • Saturday: Sindh ordered Dr Osama Sheikh’s suspension after the judicial commission’s observations on the initial post-mortem.
  • Following that order: The Home Department opened departmental action against the MLO and an inquiry against Shehryar Gul Memon, and wrote to the chief secretary on implementing the commission’s recommendations.
  • Latest: Mir Hussain publicly thanked Sindh for the JIT but asked that Arslan Manzoor be replaced as the NCCIA nominee so new investigators can take the lead.

Aasan alfaaz mein

Mir Raza ke walid ne kaha hai ke murder ki JIT mein NCCIA ka jo officer naamzada hai, us ko badla jaye. Un ke mutabiq woh officer pehle se case pe tha aur suicide wala bayan chala raha tha. Woh chahte hain ke naye log tehqeeq karein jin ka pehle se koi rishta case se na ho. Is ke sath Sindh ne pehle post-mortem karne wale doctor ko suspend kiya hai aur health ke special secretary ki inquiry bhi shuru karayi hai.
