Punjab held its first Postgraduate Entrance Test (PGET) for postgraduate medical and dental admissions on Sunday, with 9,008 doctors appearing under the University of Health Sciences (UHS), the province’s main health-sciences university. The Postgraduate Entrance Test (PGET) 2026 was held at the same time in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan.

UHS said the exam is compulsory for entry to Level III postgraduate medical and dental programmes — senior specialist training tracks that include FCPS, MD, MS and MDS. The shift marks a change from the older Joint Centralised Admission Test (JCAT), which PGET now replaces for these admissions in Punjab.

How the test was run

Candidates sat two papers between 10 am and 2:30 pm, with a 30-minute break between them. Of those who appeared, 4,579 were women and 4,429 were men.

Lahore recorded the highest attendance, with 4,107 candidates. Multan followed with 2,353, Rawalpindi with 1,516, and Faisalabad with 1,032.

Oversight and centre arrangements

UHS Vice Chancellor Maj Gen (retd) Prof Sohail Sabir visited the centre at the Punjab University Examination Halls in Lahore to check arrangements. King Edward Medical University Vice Chancellor Prof Mahmood Ayyaz went with him.

Authorities arranged security and administration at all centres. Police, rescue services, health officials and other departments assisted candidates. Medical camps were set up for emergencies, and light refreshments were provided.

  • Sunday: The Punjab government completed its first PGET, replacing JCAT for these postgraduate admissions.

The PGET is now the gateway test for doctors seeking those Level III seats. For applicants, the immediate next step is the result announcement expected next week, which will shape who can move forward in the postgraduate medical admission process.
